masquerade
"And the glorious Night is approaching--this quaint, old-time night, star-jeweled, fantastically robed; and the blue river is bearing us fleets of white boats thronged with strangers who doubtless are dreaming of lights and music, the tepid, perfumed air of Rex's palace, and the motley route of merry ghosts, droll goblins, and sweet fairies, who will dance the dance of Carnival until blue day puts out at once the trembling tapers of the stars and the lights of the great ball."

location: the lyceum ballroom date: february 17th, 2015 time: 7pm-2am dress code: fancy dress, formal, masks price: $20 all proceeds go to manners of the heart
The masquerade is being held by a variety of charities in Baton Rouge, though the proceeds are going to help The Manners of Heart fund. Upon entering the Lyceum, tickets could be bought or taken if they were preordered. After coats are taken, a menu card would be handed to the guest so that they can pick out their meal along with a raffle ticket. The center is clear for mingling, dancing and there is both a live band and a dj. There are tables and chairs on either side of the long hallway (click link above to see what the hall is like). Dinner would start to be served to those sitting around 8pm, but there are also tables of a variety of appetizer like foods as well as King Cake. The person who finds the baby Jesus in their cake will be crowned as royalty later on when the raffle is done. There are also tons of beads, being handed out for any and every reason.

At nine, there will be a speech about helping kids in need then a raffle for a variety of prizes, the largest being a 50" HD smart TV and smaller things like gift cards to various restaurants around town. (prize winners will be picked at random from people who post to the discussion post). Alcohol will be served until midnight, it's not open bar but drink tickets can be purchased at a cheap price. There's also a photobooth so people can take pictures and make memories! The live band will play until eleven, then the DJ will take over for the rest of the night. At one thirty, there'll be an announcement that the party is ending in a half hour and stragglers will be asked to leave ten til two.
